I am a mixed media artist living and working in NYC. First and foremost my work is always personal, emotional, and honest. The postcard series I am working on now, 'Wish You Were Here,' revolves around the idea of not living in the present moment but instead in voyeurism. Social media has changed the way we all live our lives and these days I find myself scrolling through Instagram wishing I was everywhere except where I'm at in that moment. This series captures that feeling as well as the feeling of wishing you were someone else entirely. The constant comparison game can be all consuming left unchecked and I wanted to show that through my work.
My early work was influenced by my experiences as a teenager living in California when I learned to measure myself by the perspective of my male others, trading the deeper and darker parts of myself for likeability and respectability. I aim to break the box of femininity by contrasting images that are beautiful with images that are repulsive, shocking, and hard to look at. And while that is still a huge part of me and what I create, I'm craving something lighter and more about where I'm at now. Ultimately I hope my art makes people feel vulnerable, to sit with the darker parts of me and themselves.
